Oman Junior Squads depart for Pan Arab Golf Championships in Tunisia

After a break of three years the Pan Arab Junior Golf Championships make a welcome return at Golf Citrus, Hammamet, Tunisia from the 4th to 8th October 2022.

The Under 18, 15, and 13 Oman National Teams ready to depart for the 2022 Pan Arab Junior Golf Championships in Tunisia

Around one hour from the capital Tunis the stunning 45 hole complex, set amongst pine forests and olive groves, will play host to the best youth golfers from the Pan Arab region.

Under the watchful eye of National Team Manager Peter Bailey, Oman’s juniors have been readying themselves to compete at Under 18, Under 15, and Under 13 levels. The last time the Championship was played in 2019 Oman picked up the Bronze team medal in the Under 15 division as well as an individual Bronze medal in the Under 13’s. Peter is quoted as saying “Each of the golf courses in Oman have been really supportive with the pre-event preparation taking place at Ghala Golf Club, Al Mouj Golf, Ras Al Hamra Golf Club, and most recently at Muscat Resorts, which is due to reopen to the public in the coming months, where the team got to experience the new Top Tracer range. The players are all excited and we look forward to having a great week in Tunis”.

Selection for the teams was based on the players performance in the ongoing GOjuniors Tour events supported by Oman LNG, these events are played throughout the year on rotation at each of the golf courses in Muscat and provide the opportunity for junior golfers based in the Sultanate to compete, develop their skills, and also meet other golfers. To supplement this an extra series of qualifying events was held over the summer to identify the most in form golfers to represent Oman.

In the Under 18’s division Ahmed Al Wahaibi, Ayman Al Busaidi, and Al Munther Al Hinai, all of whom played in the previous staging of the Pan Arab Championships, will secure another National Team appearance.

The Under 15’s team is made up of Adam Al Barwani, Faris Al Busaidi, and claiming his first National Team cap Mahir Sampat.

The Under 13 players travelling to Tunisia will be Mohib Al Kathiri and Yusuf Al Rumhy, both of whom will be earning their first National Team call up.

The teams will be accompanied to Tunis by the official Oman Golf Association delegation including Ahmed Al Jahdhamy (OGA General Secretary), Masoud Al Barwani (OGA Treasurer), Ghalib Al Busaidi (OGA Board Member), and Peter Bailey (National Team Manager).

Mundhir Al Barwani, Chairman of the Oman Golf Association, is quoted as saying “We wish all our players good luck in Tunis. The standard of golf at the Pan Arab Championships is very high with experienced teams like Morocco and Tunisia competing alongside the GCC teams including Oman. We have several younger players who will be having their first experience of National Team golf for Oman, and we hope that under Peter’s guidance they enjoy their introduction and have a great week. We must thank all of those involved in supporting junior golf development including the golf clubs themselves, our sponsors and partners Oman LNG, Sohar Aluminium, Moore Stephens, and Shell as well as the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth.”
