Oman's Golf Courses

Having started with two sand courses the game of golf has existed in Oman since 1970. Over the following half century the industry has grown to the point where there are now five grass courses all within close proximity to the capital city Muscat.

Oman's landscape is varied, from the tall mountains and deep gorges of the Al Hajar range to the unspoilt beaches and dramatic coastline, the golf courses echo this and all provide a unique and memorable experience for those who play them.

As well as meeting the domestic demands of the citizens and residents of the Sultanate golf has become a key driver for tourism and investment and through events such as the European Tour Oman Open has put Oman in the global spotlight. Through this exposure, and the testimonies of those who have visited, Oman is quickly earning a reputation as a unique and spectacular golf tourism destination.

Al Mouj Golf

The host venue for the European Tour’s Oman Open, the Greg Norman designed Al Mouj Golf opened in 2011 and is regarded by many as Oman’s top course.

Forming part of the Al Mouj Muscat luxury waterfront development the views from each hole are spectacular as the layout tracks its way along the Sea of Oman shoreline.

Along with many awards and accolades in the past, Al Mouj Golf was recently voted the second best course in the region by the National Club Golfer, and it won the IAGTO Sustainability Award for Community Value at the 2019 IAGTO awards.

Complementing its 18-hole championship layout are the floodlit par-3 nine-hole course, pro shop, floodlit driving range and restaurant.

Ghala Golf Club

Oman’s grand old Ghala Golf Club has come a long way since it was established in 1971, and this 18-hole championship layout now plays host to the MENA Golf Tour and Oman Amateur Championships every year.

Recently, the course was ranked in the top 100 courses in the world, and one of this year’s “Top 30 Most Unique” courses by Golfscape.

The course is set snugly into a valley and surrounded by mountains, and its narrow fairways will certainly challenge you.

After your round, you and your fairway buddies can meet up at Ghala’s recently renovated clubhouse, and kick back and relax on its open-air porch overlooking the course.

Ras Al Hamra

Ras Al Hamra Golf Club

Ras Al Hamra Golf Club is Oman’s first completely floodlit 18-hole layout, which is played over 9 holes from multiple tee positions and alternate green locations providing a par 71 course ranging from 5,400 to 6,500 yards in length.

Designed by the leading course architect Graham Marsh, the desert style layout makes its way through a series of arid wadis and around several high coastal hillsides. It’s a pristine patch of golf terrain and despite its slightly shorter length, it tests all your shot-making ability with every club in the bag, including your driver.

There are driving range and practice green facilities here, as well as PGA Professional lessons and coaching available.
